1. Avoiding keyword rich anchor text- Inserting keyword in the anchor text used to be a winner until last year. No matter how you were building backlinks, it used to be practiced everywhere, but now if you do that, it is guaranteed that you will get your websites penalized by Google. So, no matter what¸ avoid it!

2. Appropriate Meta tag- Just writing anything in the Meta tag will not take you anywhere. Earlier people used to insert just about anything, irrespective of its relevancy with their website, but now if you do that, search engines will undoubtedly put you in their to-be-ignored list.

3. Say NO to buying links- In the past, all that mattered was number of backlinks to a website. Nobody cared about the source of links, their quality, or anything else, unless they were getting do-follow backlinks. Now, this practice has almost been eradicated. Now, more than the quantity of backlinks, their quality matters. One quality backlink is considered better than 100 low-quality backlinks. Remember that!

4. A big NO to use of low quality or spin content- Content was acknowledged as the king, in the past as well, but it hardly appeared to be in control. However, with Panda and Penguin, Google crowned Content as the undisputed king, by making it the most decisive factor of the performance of a website. Now, if by any means you get content generated through unlawful or low quality tactics, there is no way you can do well online. An SEO company that is run by smart brains, in cities like NYC, must already know this. However, in case you do not, it is advisable to stick to only quality method. High quality content can single handedly take you to heights unimagined. 

5. Integration of SEO with SMO- Social media websites have taken over the world like storm. Today, almost every other person is on one or the other social networking website. Websites like Facebook, Google Plus, and Twitter claim to have a huge population of the world active on their platforms. That has pretty much affected how search engine optimization is today. Now, all your efforts for optimization may go vain, unless you integrate your efforts with effective social media marketing.
